Frequently asked

Is this a substitute for the official Form 16 issued by an employer?

No. This tool produces an illustrative Part B computation to help you understand and check the numbers. The legally valid Form 16 must be issued by the employer through the TRACES portal, referencing TDS actually deposited.

Which tax regime does this calculator use?

It illustrates the old tax regime with common deductions (standard deduction, HRA exemption, 80C, 80D), since that regime involves the most moving parts. Compare against the new regime separately if relevant to you.

What is the Section 87A rebate?

It reduces tax to nil for resident individuals with taxable income up to ₹5,00,000 under the old regime — this tool applies that rebate automatically for illustration.

Are cess and surcharge included?

A 4% Health and Education Cess is added to the computed tax. Surcharge (applicable only at higher income levels) isn't included in this simplified version — consult your CA for income above ₹50 lakh.
